So this is what happened at the SPCA today:
One of the animal attendants wanted a volunteer to feed the kittens at the ARC. The ARC (Animal Recovery Centre) is where cats with cat flu go while they get better. They're still up for adoption, and the rooms they're in are really pretty - designed like the insides of people's houses, complete with beds and carpets and things. Each room is about the size of my bedroom.

So, the lady showed me where to get the food and the special apron I had to wear etc, and says that the number of cats in each room is indicated outside the door. As she leaves, she says to make sure that I close the door after I enter the room because even though there's a low screen, the cats can jump out.
I was like, yup.

*looks at the door*
Sign says: 23 Kittens x 1

I thought, there can't be 23 kittens.

*Slides door open*

There were 23 kittens.
And, because they were starved for both food and human attention, they ran right up and started trying to grab me.

But eventually I managed to get them all fed without stepping on them.

I went back outside and the staff member in charge of the ARC walks past, and she's like, "Did you feed my beauties?"
[Unfortunately] "Yes."
"Thank you so much!" And she leaves.

The next room said, "Kittens x 28."

*Slides door open*

These kittens were older, like maybe four months, so they immediately put their paws on the top of the screen, trying to get to me.
And as I was putting the food in their bowls, one of them sliced my glove, and I was like, "Thanks for that," and then another one jumped on my back and just sat there, which made all the people watching through the glass laugh, especially because my hands were full of food so I couldn't lift her off - I had to wait til she jumped off. How terrible. This is why I like adult cats.
