See our bookshelf at home is full of familiar faces;
just by glancing at the spines I could tell you the stories lying quietly within as well
as a multitude of random quotes,

but a bookstore...
it's pretty much a house of rectangular prisms
each trying to advertise their interiors with pretty fonts and well written blurbs
all of them extroverted, none of them friendly.
Purchase is permanent.

It's music I tell you
"Poor little Maggie sat down, with all the music chased out of her soul, and the seven small demons all in again."
Yesterday afternoon was the annual keyboard concert, which all the keyboard kids in our music school + guitarists/violinists/classical people roped into performing play in every year.
I fell into the last category, so I played Debussy's Arabesque 1 like last time.. it went a bit better than before. but not much better. lol well at least mum didn't notice that I made any mistakes.
At least half the kids are <10
but
the good thing about keyboards is that all the background sequences and SFX and stuff fill in quite a lot, so all the lil' ones playing with two fingers sound cute
haha
My favourites were the 'old mcdonald jazz version' trio, cos' one of the girls had her keyboard set on some brassy instrument thingy, sounded like a duck quack
and the 'yankee doodle variations' duet. it was really energetic. reminded me of the chocobo song
The audience was a bit... lol it was entirely comprised of teachers, parents and performers
They started applauding before I finished playing, and if you've ever heard the piece, you'll know it's not one of those "hmm sounds like the end.. oh wait she's still playing" sort of pieces
And there was this girl playing violin
Audience started applauding immediately after she finished playing even though the accompianist was still playing the closing bars

A miniature disagreement

It was now June and thus far Cheese-grater had somehow managed to pair up with either Spatula or Tongs all year without ever having to find another partner, so when Mrs Choppingboard announced the newest assignment, "Colour in the picture of Wok at the beach", Spatula and Tongs agreed to work together.
Cheese-grater was most unhappy when she heard this.
"No," she said, "You can go with me, Tongs."
"We've already decided," said Spatula, irate.
"But Tongs would rather work with me, wouldn't you?" said Cheese-grater.
"No she wouldn't."
"Yes she would."
"Tongs, who do you want to work with?" said Spatula.
Poor Tongs clinked a little under the force of their glares and muttered, "Spatula."
Spatula smiled; the matter was settled.
"OI, KETTLE," yelled Cheese-grater. "Spatula needs a partner, could you pair up with her?"
"What!" exclaimed Spatula indignantly, but Kettle beamed. She hadn't had a partner since the incident where she had accidentally sat on Plastic-Fork. Kettle lumbered over happily. She tripped over her extension cord, spilling her contents - recently boiled, 96 degrees Celsius water - onto Cheese-grater, Spatula and Tongs.
[Moral: If you're carrying hot water, don't forget to shout GUAN SOY]

I did five and a half hours of maths yesterday, that's something.
I tried to kill the aphids on my sunflower... it's dying ): and using lemon juice and stuff doesn't seem to be working.
I repotted Afro and Silvester (yes, I name my plants, I'm that normal) .. Afro is bridal veil and Silvester is that silver-striped green and purple leafed plant, same species that *someone* put in the watering can xD because they're both from cuttings, they're growing really fast

Warning: fragile
They used to be friends, back when she still had a smile and he still had a life.
It didn't matter that his shirt was always ripped, or that there were purple shadows around his left eye.
She'd tie a little white ribbon around his wrist, and he'd feel better, even though he hated the colour
representing as it did that which did not exist
They'd go traipsing through the fields, cuttigrass and all, and by the end of the day their oh-so-pale ankles would be raw. Afterwards, her mother would give them cookies and milk.
"Why do you have cuts all over your legs?" her mother would say.
"Because scissors beats paper," she'd reply, and he'd nod but never mention that
rock beats paper too
After the funeral, she and her mother moved away. But the new location didn't help, and she still dreamed about him every night, even though time ate at her memories until she could no longer recall the sound of his voice or the colour of his eyes.
"We used to be friends," she'd say to him in her dream. His silhouette would nod.
And she'd wake up with a little white ribbon in her hand
and paper in her pocket
thank you for forever
