Day 22: What makes you different from everyone else
Hello,
it's been a while.
So much so in fact that this blog feels a bit like a long-lost friend whom you are very close with but you have missed out on so much of their life that you don't know where to start.
Hm.
"I always says the best place to start is from the beginning, zurr!"
"Excellent idea! I always did say that no one could beat sound mole logic."
Okay, so today's challenge is "what makes me different from everyone else". And a couple of things I observed this week gave me my answer.
First: I had a conversation with a lady about birthdays. See, it turns out that this woman's family seems to have a bit of a birthday tradition: her grandmother, mother and brother (or something similar; it was three family members anyway) all have birthdays on 22 July.
Very cool coincidence, I said :)
And then she said, just as casually and in the same conversational tone, that she lost a baby in her late stages of pregnancy. But the baby's birthday would have been on 22 July too.
I couldn't help thinking,
I wonder how much time had passed before she was able to speak so easily about this,
and it made me sad,
and as you can see,
it stuck in my mind long enough to write this blog.
The second incident happened just now.
I was in our bathroom at home and I noticed for the first time that one of the decorative wall tiles is upside down. It's a swirly pattern and it's quite obvious, and yet after ~seven years of living in this house, I had never noticed it before. I told my dad and he said he hadn't noticed it either. Nor did he particularly care. But I feel pretty silly :S
So,
what I think makes me different from other people is the way I think. Memories and personal incidents tend to affect me a lot, and I pay attention to them, but I'm sure I don't notice a lot of obvious things that other people do. It's a good thing though. We need all sorts in this world :)
