Open day

I went to the Careers Day at Auckland Uni yesterday.
(and apparently you were there Wibble? but I didn't see you)

It was good.
We saw lots of engineering stuff since I didn't really know what engineering was
it was really interesting
I'm suspicious that that's because they tried to make it crowd-pleaser though:
The chemical engineer did lots of experiments breaking stuff by putting it in liquid nitrogen, rapid heating --> rapid cooling, etc.
Software engineer guy sort of focussed on game design/SFX, and also facebook, google and designing the health system.
Civil engineering presentation talked about "where does your poo go" and the other stuff they do, and also all these crazy constructions like the bridge in France which is 240m above the ground (Sky Tower observation deck is 192m) and the 818m high building in Dubai (apparently, they kept the height secret til the end cos' they wanted to make it the tallest building in the world.)

In contrast, the mechanical engineering lecture was a video of a guy doing a mechanical engineering lecture - stuff about how wheels, engines and washing machines etc work.
(I don't think I'm a very mechanical type person. We have this book about a mammoth testing out all of these 'caveman' inventions. It gets really detailed about fulcrums and tension in springs and things.. the only reason I read it was cos' I wanted to see the mammoth. Anyway.)

We went to the afternoon medicine lecture
O_O the theatre held 570 ppl, there were two sessions, and they still had to turn people away. Competition much.

I went to the "learn how to read the Korean alphabet in ten minutes"
Korean is cool. So logical.
Now I just have to learn some words =]
